I made these! You can tell which one I made first (the right one was first) - they get progressively better. Then my friend was telling me about notching - the pattern told me to notch, but my mind didn't really get it...so I didn't do it (my mom would say "Gagh, Melissa, you need to notch!"). Well, since taking these pics I notched and they look way better! I haven't put names on these yet because I just can't decide how I want to do it - pretty sure that it's just not happening this year. I made these with osnaburg fabric - same fabric I used for my tree skirt, my Silent Night & Holy Night pillows and the table runner for my friends shower. I did this on purpose so I could buy this all with one cut at the fabric store and get 40% off the whole thing...oh I feel clever and organized! And, added plus, it brings a lot of unity to the room.
This one is Stella's - I made the little ruffle with using a loose stitch and pulling it tight. The ruffle seemed best for out puppy baby. This one is also her favorite to pull down - she always looks at me so proud when she pulls it off {monster} it's really hard to be mad at her!
This one is mine - pleats. If you look closely {or not really all that closely} you'll see that these aren't evenly spaced at all and see a multitude of other problem. Who cares - I made it up as I went along! The trims weren't part of the pattern, totally made them all by my lonesome!
Husband got a simple straight across trim - makes me think of the trimming on stately pajamas - the ones that match and have a pocket for a handkerchief.
I buy osnaburg in ten yard lengths for the 40% off too! It is the most useful cloth. You can print photographs on transfer paper and iron on the osnaburg easily. I love the stockings!
ReplyDeleteReally, that is so cool! I am a osnaburg convert - definitely buying this in bulk from now on!
DeleteI'm with you on the notches. I hate clipping curves. I understand why it has to be done, but I still feel rebellious. These are lovely stockings, though. Notches or no notches.
ReplyDeleteHaha - Love it! I get a little kick of rebellion when I sew my way instead of the right way too :).
