This week: 7 December 2016

This week we saw Santa. It was ...memorable. My friend does a Christmas photoshoot for charity, this year I offered up my house as the location. It was really fun, and felt good to be able to contribute in some way. An added bonus was having Santa at our house all day. Wade thought it was awesome, Blake was leery, but Jacqueline kept her eye on that man in the red suit all day. Every time Santa walked in the room Jac would freeze - the only thing moving was her eyes, watching him. For the first hour she sat on the steps to make sure he didn't sneak up on her.

Before Santa got there, everyone loved playing on the set.

And they've continue to love the Christmas decorations.

The blue lights are Blake's favorite. Thankfully everyone's been gentle on the trees (yes, trees! We have four - 2 fake and 2 real). I keep waiting for one to smash a kid.

If mischief is involved, they all get along great. No decor is where I've left it. I'm already down a poinsettia - not because I forgot to water it.

The mischief has definitely spread to the presents. I have a few more years before breakable presents are allowed. I keep finding them stacked or sorted by color. One didn't make it:

Somehow they opened the only present under the tree for them! And that's how you get a Christmas present turned into a birthday present.

I have a three year old!! I probably should have started there, but the terrified Santa picture obviously HAD to be first.

Wade turned three today! And I'm having all those mommy emotions of, "how is my baby so big?!" He had donuts for breakfast, opened a Christmas-turned-birthday present, had friends over to play (with minimum meltdowns), ate cake, watched Cars, and played with Play Doh. Perfect Wade day.

More specifically, he watched Cars while playing with his new cars.

Wade has been into trying to dress (and undress) himself. It's really not working out too well. Not well at all, but it's funny. He still can't figure out how to pull up his underwear and pants together, he often has a hilarious waddle.

At night I've been singing Wade Christmas songs - he's been getting longer bedtimes. A few nights ago Wade told Husbands and I to both sing, but different songs - I had to sing Twinkle Twinkle and Husband had to sing Another One Bites the Dust. Such a bossy little kid.

This little cutie started walking! Wait, no, she's taken steps! She's taken to walking everywhere on her knees so she can move and hold things in both hands. But she's also taken 2-3 steps at a time! She's so proud of herself. She continues to need laps, especially when I'm sitting to change Blake.

Blake slept in until 10 today! I kept checking that she was still breathing. She continues to be a little thief, but she's also started giving things back to Jac - it's adorable. She'll steal Jac's bottle (even though she has her own dangling from her mouth), Jac gets upset, and the Blake gives her the bottle back. They also often give each other little hugs/pats, trying to make the other one happy. They really love each other - when Blake was sleeping in today Jac had no idea what to do with herself.

I've been thinking a lot of our Savior while setting up for Christmas (imagine that!), I was feeling a little bit like a scrooge when it came to decorating (household food poisoning will do that to a person) but I started thinking about the decor as setting up for Christ's birthday, not just holiday stuff. I thought of setting up for Wade's birthday and how I love that little boy year round, but celebrating him on his day of birth is extra special. Long story short, I've gotten into the holiday spirit, my halls are decked, and I've been feeling a little closer to my Savior with every Christmas card I write.
